A SUMMER OF DISCOVERY
Gifty Atanga, a Middlebury College senior, spent the summer working with MMI Professor Andy Pekosz. Her mission: Study the H3N2 viruses circulating during the 2021–2022 flu season. Atanga’s research was part of the Diversity Summer Internship Program, which creates pathways to public health careers for students from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds. The IDARE Office runs the eight-week internship that connects talented undergraduates with faculty mentors. At summer’s end, Atanga and her 28 peers presented their graduate-level independent research projects.
